Grand Rapids Community College is celebrating the opening of its Lakeshore Campus.
The former Holland JCPenney in The Shops at Westshore mall has been transformed into the Grand Rapids Community College Lakeshore Campus. Over the past 20 years classes offered to Ottawa county students were spread across four satellite locations. The $12 million project is a consolidation and expansion of programs under one 52,000 square foot roof. Nine classrooms offering Arts and Science to Work Force Training programs featuring automation, biology, chemistry, computer, electronics, machine tool and welding labs.
The Lakeshore Campus is, for us, really transformational because we do know that the timing is critical.”
Dr. Kathy Mullins is GRCC’s vice president of Advancement and executive director of the GRCC Foundation.
“And we do know that our partners and the employers, as well as our partners in K-12 system, are all looking for opportunities for students to have greater access to higher education and that is what GRCC Lakeshore Campus will do for that community.”
Future programs under consideration are in health care, early childhood education, and teaching.
