Kalamazoo County Deputy Sheriff Ryan J. Proxmire, (sounds like Prox-fire) had been pursuing a suspect in a police chase, after the suspect pulled a gun on officers at a gas station before taking off in a vehicle.
During the pursuit, the suspect shot at law enforcement from his car-- hitting Deputy Proxmire--and causing his police cruiser to drive off the road.
According to the Sheriff's office, first-responders rushed Proxmire to a nearby hospital in 'extremely critical condition,' however, despite doctor's best efforts, Proxmire succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead Sunday evening.
Meanwhile, the suspect drove into a field where his car got stuck—the suspect then exited his vehicle and began shooting at police--officers returned fire, and the suspect died on the scene.
The Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department is set to hold a press conference Monday.
