Former Detroit Police Chief James Craig takes his first public steps towards what could be a run for the Governor’s office today. Craig will address Jackson County Republicans at an event celebrating the birthday of the GOP.
Craig retired last month after eight years leading Detroit’s police force and more than four decades in law enforcement. Rumors swirled immediately that Craig might be preparing a bid to run as a Republican against Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
Craig has not publicly confirmed whether he would seek the governor’s office…but did tell Fox News recently that he would make a decision about a possible run within a few weeks.
