This week the state of Michigan ends almost all restrictions designed to limit the spread of COVID-19, as Michigan officials are making the move far sooner than they’d originally planned to.
First, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer tied easing COVID restrictions to the number of state residents who were vaccinated. Then the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced anyone who was vaccinated need not wear a mask outdoorsand Whitmer mandated that only those NOT inoculated had to wear one indoors -- and just until July 1st.
Now the Governor has again moved the timeline forwarderasing all mask requirements and limits on capacity at indoor AND outdoor settings beginning tomorrow (Tuesday.) Some testing and safety requirements remain for those incarcerated working at farms or in long-term care facilities. The state will also soon issue updated guidelines for schools.
The governor’s been under pressure to end mandates from Michigan’s Republican-controlled legislature and business owners struggling to regain revenue lost because of the pandemic.
