Following the Feds, the City of Grand Rapids has announced it is extending its City Income tax due date.
Based on the federal income tax filing due date being extended to May 17, the City of Grand Rapids has followed suit, announcing yesterday, that its City income tax due date also has been extended – from April 30 to June 1.
Taxpayers can defer income tax payments due on April 30 to June 1 without penalties and interest, regardless of the amount owed. All Grand Rapids taxpayers now have until June 1 to file. This deferment applies to all taxpayers – including individuals, trusts and estates, corporations and other non-corporate tax filers as well as those who pay self-employment tax. This deferment does not apply to any withholding taxes.
City Income Tax Administrator Jennifer Woodard says taxpayers do not need to file any additional forms or call the Grand Rapids Income Tax Office to qualify for this automatic tax filing and payment relief. Individual taxpayers who need additional time to file beyond the new June 1 deadline, can request a filing extension by completing and submitting the extension form available on the City’s website.
No penalty or interest will be assessed on tax due unless it was for failure to make estimated payments. At this time, estimated payment due dates have not been changed or moved but the City will update this as it gets information from the Internal Revenue Service.
