COVID plans will top Whitmer State of the State plans

twitter

The state’s response to the COVID-19 crisis is expected to be the central focus tonight of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s third State of the State address.

The address will be delivered remotely because of the COVID-19 crisis, and it’s believed the first time in Michigan’s state and territorial history without the Legislature in attendance.

The governor told M-Live that everything– including re-opening schools and businesses -- rests on taming the spread of COVID and getting people vaccinated

“Those are the fundamentals to our economic resurgence and return to normalcy.”

The Legislature’s Republican leaders will deliver their formal response tomorrow. But the Senate rejected 13 Whitmer nominations just hours before the speech as a signal that Republicans want the governor to agree to faster plans to re-open.
