Restaurants allowed to re-open for limited dine-in

pixio

People will be allowed to eat inside restaurants in Michigan starting February first.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that today.

When they re-open next month, restaurant dining rooms will have to operate under restrictions -- 25 percent of capacity or 100 people, whichever is less. Dining areas will have to close by 10 o-clock.

Governor Whitmer say re-opening dining areas is possible because earlier restrictions have worked and infection rates have improved.

“And now, while we must remain vigilant and cautious, we can lift some protocols that were previously in place.”

The state’s chief health officer says seniors and people with serious health conditions should still avoid dining out.

Indoor dining in Michigan has been shut down since November 18th.  Industry groups welcome the news, and want restaurant workers to be given a higher priority for the vaccine.
