West Michigan U.S. Congressional leaders offer Inauguration Day statements
West Michigan’s U.S. House leaders offered statements on the Inauguration of President Joe Biden. U.S. Representative Peter Meijer congratulated President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
In a statement, the Grand Rapids Republican defended democracy and the peaceful transfer of power.
“At a time when our country faces significant challenges and division, I urge the Biden Administration to lead with unity and thoughtful governance. We will never solve the problems facing our nation if we let a politics of revenge take root. As I stated last year, I remain willing to work with the President and Vice President to ensure policies enacted are in the best interest of all West Michiganders.”
U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga applauded an Inaugural speech calling for unity, but the Zeeland Republican questions whether President Biden can move the nation forward.
“There are a multitude of challenges facing our nation that require solutions supported by both Republicans and Democrats. While there will be areas where the President and I disagree, I am hopeful we can work together to help West Michigan get back to work, strengthen the Great Lakes, and improve economic opportunity for Americans across all walks of life.”
U.S. Rep. Huizenga congratulated both Biden and Harris offering prayers for them and the nation.
