President Trump criticizes Gov. Whitmer at Muskegon rally, crowd chants 'lock her up'

Factbase

Thousands of supporters braved the cold Saturday night for a chance to see President Donald Trump in person as his campaign made a stop at the Muskegon County Airport.

The visit came after Vice President Mike Pence made a campaign stop in Grand Rapids Tuesday, as both the Trump and Biden camps have made an effort to spend a considerable amount of time in Michigan, seen as a key battleground state in the upcoming November election.

Trump’s speech touched on the same issues as Pence’s did earlier in the week, pledging to have law enforcement’s backs while vowing never to defund the police. While Pence largely avoided the issue Tuesday, Trump however Saturday, was critical of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer as the crowd yelled “lock her up,” the same chant used against Hillary Clinton back in 2016.

“You’ve got to get your governor to open up your state, okay? And open up your schools too.”

The President has some gaining up to do. According to recent polls, Biden holds a roughly 8 point lead heading into the November election.
