The Kent County Board of Commissioners is allocating $5 million dollars to businesses impacted by the pandemic closed by Executive Order since August 1st.

Most businesses where social distancing is difficult to maintain have been most adversely impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. With that in mind, the Kent County Board of Commissioners is extending short-term economic relief grants to qualifying businesses depending on their size. Grants range from $10,000, $40,000.

To qualify, they must be registered in Kent County and ordered closed as of August 1st. The list includes indoor theaters, cinemas, performance venues, banquet centers, indoor gymnasiums, fitness centers, recreation centers, sports facilities, exercise facilities, bowling alleys, indoor climbing facilities, indoor dance areas, skating rinks, trampoline parks, and other similar facilities. Contractors, suppliers and vendors to these industries are also eligible.

Mandy Bolter is Chair of the Kent County Board of Commissioners. She explained, “We must take every action to support job creators who are still shuddered or had a long-delayed reopening. Working with our business owners and economic groups it has become painfully clear we will lose some of these jobs forever if we do not act now.”

In addition to the $5 million is $750,000 allocated for childcare providers.
