Wyoming’s Ideal Park was hard hit by a tornado tracking through the area in 2014. The park lost 90 percent of its mature trees. It’s playground and a shelter were also heavily damaged.
Back then, a $300,000 grant from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund helped replace the trees and replace damaged structures.
A total of $1.8 million financed new parking and lighting. A new connector path and footpath trail, basketball court, trailhead signage and open a play area featuring a rubberized play surface along with new rope and butterfly play features.
Due to large gathering restrictions, Tuesday’s virtual re-opening celebrated the Ideal Park’s improvements.
