Paw Paw school district officials formally decided on a new nickname

Pressure has been growing on schools to stop using the name “Redskins” because it’s considered a racial slur. Three years ago the board voted to keep it, but now it's changed it's mind approving the name "Red Wolves" instead. 

School Board President Brent McNitt joine dother school board members in voting unanimously to approve the new nickname and logo. 

“Even if it is time to change, change is never easy.  This is especially true when that change replaces a nearly 100 year history."

Pressure has been growing on schools to stop using the name “Redskins” because it’s considered a racial slur. Just three years ago the school board in Paw Paw voted to keep it. 

Four other Michigan schools still use the name. 

Coincidently on Monday, the owner of the NFL's Washington team announced a name change too after years of criticism that the name is disparaging against Native Americans.
