Kent County Board of Commissioners has formulated and passed its CARES Act Allocation Strategy for COVID-19 relief funding.
Kent County was awarded more than $114 million through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act or CARES Act in April. A subcommittee was formed meeting with community members determining how best to allocate the COVID-19 Relief Fund.
In a news release the priorities include $35 million directed to, “expenses for community education, emergency operations, homeless population response, surveillance and contact tracing, testing, public safety and correctional facility.” Businesses can receive up to $25 million in assistance including $3 million in Return-to-Work Personal Protective Equipment.
The subcommittee also placed an emphasis on Care for Vulnerable Populations making a $12.2 million commitment and another $3 million toward the Mitigation of Homelessness.
In an effort promoting social distancing, $1 million is devoted to expanding internet access.
Local Units of Government will also receive $15 million in COVID-19 related assistance.
More than $20 million is in reserve in the event the region experiences a second wave of COVID-19 infections.
