Governor Gretchen Whitmer has taped two West Michigan education leaders to the Michigan Education Trust Board of Directors.

The Michigan Education Trust is the state’s 529 prepaid college tuition plan. It’s operated by the Michigan Department of Treasury. It allows parents to purchase credit hours at today’s cost for the future education of their children.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer made three appointments to the Michigan Education Trust Board of Directors. Grand Valley State University President Dr. Philomena V. Mantella was tapped by the governor to represent the MET board’s president of a state institution of higher education.

Representing a community or junior college is Muskegon Community College president Dr. Dale K. Nesbary.

Wayne State University’s Marlin Williams is the chief program officer at TechTown Detroit and assistant vice president of economic development at the university. She represents board members with knowledge, skill, and experience in the academic, business, or financial fields.

The appointments are subject to the Michigan Senate’s consent effective May 22nd ending December 31st 2021.
