For the 18th consecutive year, Kids’ Food Basket will hold its annual Feast for Kids.  It’s a critical fundraiser being held on Wednesday.  But like many things these days, it will look different.  It’s been forced to go “virtual" due to COVID-19.

“We have to face the harsh reality that’s there’s going to be even more need than there is right now and Kids Food Basket is responding.”

That’s Bridget Clark Whitney, President and Founding CEO of the Kids’ Food Basket discussing the needs she says will exist post COVID 19.  This as they prepare for one of their biggest annual events.

In the past, the annual Feast for Kids put on by the folks from Kids Food Basket, would highlight the work of the areas Chefs of the Year and local culinary arts students from the American Culinary Federation.  The show will go on, but this year the event will have to be livestreamed.

“And so for 18 years we’ve partnered together and raised those critical funds and been able to service healthy meals to kids, in schools all across West Michigan.”

Clark -Whitney says this year’s event will be a lot different.

”Rather than our typical event, which happens about 400 people at Notos, this year we’re partnering with both the chefs again, as well as a variety of local restaurants. And individuals who purchased tickets are able to go to these restaurants, pick up a really beautiful, catered meal and come home and enjoy the program, online.”

Clark Whitney says since mid-March they have served more than 216-thousand meals to kids in need.

“We are working with over 70 distribution sites, in four different counties. In Kent County, Ottawa County, Muskegon County and Allegan County.”

The 18th annual Feast for Kids will take place at 7 pm on May 20th with a virtual program and live auction- you can find it at kidsfoodbasket.org as well as their Facebook page and YouTube channel.
