Republican legislators sued the Governor last week, alleging that her extension of the stay-at-home orders was unlawful.

Jamie Brown is with the Michigan Nurses Association. She said nurses have a stake in the Governor maintaining her power and keeping the stay at home orders in place.

“As nurses in Michigan, we are seeing many people die from COVID-19. The only reason the curve is starting to flatten is because of the stay at home orders that the Governor has enacted.”

Brown said at least 21 frontline healthcare workers in the state have died because of coronavirus exposure.

“Until you actually experience a family member dying it’s not going to hit you as personally as it is the healthcare workers right now. We’re the ones taking care of these patients and they aren’t making it and there is nothing we can do to stop it.”

Brown said she understands people’s frustration with staying home - but it’s a matter of life and death for healthcare workers.
