The Michigan COVID-19 Response and Recovery Initiative is receiving $250,000 supporting critical services including addressing hunger and food insecurity for individuals in need. It’s a portion of UnitedHealth Group’s $50 million commitment to fighting COVID-19 across the country.
“The grant to Michigan’s COVID-19 Response and Recovery Initiative will go directly to the Food Bank Council of Michigan, the state’s unified food bank network, to support the purchase of wholesale food for emergency food boxes and distribution to those in need.”
Dennis Mouras is chief executive officer, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan – Michigan which serves Medicare and Medicaid recipients.
“We felt that the Food Bank Council of Michigan was in the best position in Michigan to distribute the funds and the food in the most appropriate way for the most people in need.”
The United Health Foundation says its also committing $5 million in national partnerships with the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, the Feeding America network of member food banks, and Meals on Wheels America.
