With roughly 640,000 Michiganders having filed for unemployment benefits, officials launched a new instructional video this week as frustrations with navigating the system continues to grow.

According to the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency, a number of people are in the dark and growing impatient with filing a claim, as the COVID-19 pandemic has caused nearly 1,000,000 Michiganders to be out of work.

Steve Gray is the director of the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency. He says that has led to an influx in the number of people trying to claim unemployment benefits, many who are getting frustrated with navigating through the process.

“We’ve been getting a lot of questions about claims, so we put together this video to answer some of the most frequently answered questions.”

Those include such questions as “how do I file a claim, how do I set up my account, and when do I receive my money?”

As of April 16, more than one million Michiganders had reportedly been laid off or furloughed, of that 64 percent had filed for unemployment.
