'A great deal of anxiety' for Muskegon residents, after 1st coronavirus case confirmed

The COVID-19 virus has officially made its way to the Lakeshore, as Monday, county officials announced the first confirmed coronavirus case in Muskegon.

Muskegon County officials say the first presumptive positive case for the coronavirus disease is an adult female, however, no other details have been provided at this point, including her age or her physical condition. But the news means that more confirmed cases of COVID-19 may soon be coming from the Lakeshore, something that Muskegon County Administrator Mark Eisenbarth says, undoubtedly will make residents nervous.

“The uncertainty of the situation brings a great deal of anxiety to everyone,” Eisenbarth said. “We need your help in following the Executive Orders of Governor Gretchen Whitmer in an effort to protect all the citizens of Muskegon County.”

Those executive orders came Monday as well from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who issued a statewide stay-at-home order.

Meanwhile Muskegon County health officials are working on the investigation and contacting people who have been in close contact with the case. Close contacts will be assessed for symptoms, and instructed to self-quarantine.
