Following Governor Gretchen Whitmer extending her “Stay Home, Stay Safe” executive order to the end of April, officials from the Grand Rapids City Commission made the decision to move all of its meetings to a virtual format. Joel Hondorp is Grand Rapids City Clerk explaining the new meeting format.

“So, we are going to have the same public comment time at night, we have four public hearings, then we have another public comment time. So, if people want to comment to the City Commission meeting they just need to call 3-1-1 or 456-3000.”

All city officials and commissioners will attend the meeting from home using a platform called Webex.

“We are trying to make the meeting feel like exactly like it is if you were in City Commission chambers, it’s just going to be virtual.”

The meetings that have always been open to the public will still be open to the public via livestream on Youtube, Facebook or Webex or via phone toll free. You can find the access codes for the meetings at grandrapidsmi.gov and clicking on meetings under the government tab.
