Mercy Health is joining Spectrum Health offering drive-through COVID-19 testing in West Michigan.
Drive-through testing for COVID-19 is one way to slow the spread of the disease by diagnosing it sooner.
“This is a testing that is ordered by an outpatient provider through either a phone visit, a video visit or an in-person visit that allows patients to come down and get tested while staying in their car much earlier in the disease course.”
Dr. Andrew Jameson is Regional Medical Director-Infectious Control for Mercy Health Physician Partners.
“We have also been lucky to partner with a local lab that has a very, very high capacity for testing patients, and so we do not have some of the limitations that are present in some of the other parts of the country, and this is allowing us to really offer a great service to our patients to get testing done much earlier in the disease course. Because someone who is coughing for three days and gets diagnosed with coronavirus will behave much differently than someone who thought they just had a mild cold and then gets better quickly.”
COVID-19 tests results are available within 24 hours. Drive through patients receive home quarantine information.
Two drive-through locations are available at Mercy Health Saint Mary’s Wege Parking Ramp at 300 Lafayette Avenue SE in Grand Rapids and at Mercy Health Muskegon Campus at 1500 East Sherman Boulevard.
