Michigan COVID-19 cases nears 10,000 with biggest single day jump Wednesday

Michigan saw its largest single day spike in COVID-19 cases Wednesday, as health officials confirm, nearly 10,000 people have tested presumptive positive for the coronavirus. A little over 1700 new coronavirus cases were announced, including 78 new deaths, a 30 percent increase in less than 24 hours.

It’s the second day in a row with an increase of 1000 or more cases in Michigan.

80% so far have been in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, which are in the Detroit area. However, Kent County Wednesday confirmed its second death due to the coronavirus, and health officials say West Michigan will begin seeing a “dramatic” increase in the number of cases over the next several days.

Health officials are urging everyone to stay at home, and practice social distancing---as the most recent models suggest the Coronavirus will not peak until sometime in May.
