Macomb county politicos, businessman face corruption charges

Macomb County Prosecutor Eric Smith finds himself in the sight of law enforcement. Smith and three others face charges of embezzlement and corruption.

The other three include a businessman and two top aides – one of them is a former legislator.
The charges say they raided funds from seized criminal assets and used them on gifts, dinners, and other personal expenses.
Problems were first noticed by Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel, who forwarded his suspicions to the state. Attorney General Dana Nessel says the investigation took almost a year….

“…and uncovered an elaborate scheme of public profiteering motivated by what appears to be unfettered self-interest.”

One of the defendants has already been arraigned and released on bond. Smith and two others are supposed to be arraigned Friday.
