LINC UP, (one of Grand Rapids’ affordable housing organizations) is making sure local tenants are not evicted from their properties during the Coronavirus crisis.

“Figure this out as we go.  These are unprecedented times and there’s no clear blueprint to follow in this process.”

Jeremy Deroo is the Executive Director for LINC UP.  He says they are working to address the Coronavirus and its potential impact on the community, especially those who are economically vulnerable.  He says they’re ensuring there will be no evictions for residents of LINC UP properties as a result of COVID-19.

“We’re trying to take steps that will mitigate this disease and protect our staff and our residents also recognizing, that those most deeply impacted by compliance with the recommendations from the CDC and from the Governor’s office are the ones that are the most economically vulnerable, are the people with the lowest wage jobs are the least likely ones to get compensation and most likely to go without pay, as businesses start closing and restaurants start closing.”

LINC UP provides affordable housing as a non-profit community development organization.  Deroo says their goal is to help their residents through this time while at the same time addressing the needs of their staff.   To that end, they have temporarily canceled or postponed any events that were scheduled until April 6th.  They are also closing their offices to the public but encourage those with questions or issues to give them a call.
