With thousands of residents across Michigan staying home and unable to work amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Consumers Energy announced Monday it will not shut off services for low-income customers or seniors that are struggling to pay their utility bills.
Beginning March 16 and lasting through April 5, Consumers Energy officials say the company is suspending its shutoffs while the state grapples with the coronavirus outbreak.
“This ensures our most vulnerable customers have the services they need during this state of emergency,” Consumers said in a release Monday. “All shut-off notices will be withheld to prevent any additional stress for these customers.”
