Many Americans are wondering now what to do about upcoming trips. Though they say the decision to travel is a personal one, AAA Michigan is providing information on travel safety to help travelers make informed decisions.
“This remains a fluid situation with things changing every day, sometimes multiple times each day. Travel providers are adjusting everything, from policies to pricing many of which can benefit travelers. That’s why it’s important to stay in touch with a travel advisor to see where your options are before making costly changes on your own.”
With so many changes at hand, some travelers may postpone their trip, while others may choose to go. If you do continue on with travel plans, Woodland says to make sure you’re aware of the latest advisories and don’t travel if you’re feeling sick. And don’t forget to take along some important items.
“Definitely travel with all your necessary travel documentation including insurance cards, pack and alcohol-based hand sanitizer, pack extra supplies including extra medication in case your trip is delayed. Know the nearest location and numbers of your Embassy and Consulate (if traveling abroad) and enroll in the state department’s smart traveler program.”
Woodland says with the Smart Traveler Program you can be reached if there are changes and alerts if you’re traveling abroad. If you’re wondering whether travel insurance covers the corona virus, Woodland says coverage options can vary, but she says some insurance providers are broadening their coverage as it relates to the corona virus.
