In recognition of Black History Month the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum is hosting a new exhibit.
The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum is presenting a Civil Rights Art Exhibit during Black History Month. It will highlight the work of nationally acclaimed artist Brian Washington. Here’s Kristin Mooney, Public Affairs Specialist at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum.
“The Continual Struggle is a series of charcoal drawings by Brian Washington, he’s an interesting character, because he’s actually a lawyer by trade and an artist by passion. He started his works in 2003 and people were moved by them and so he created more works.”
By 2016 the collection was complete and Washington began to show and share his work. Washington’s work is entitled, “The Continual Struggle: The American Freedom Movement and the Seeds of Social Change.” He’s quoted as saying “I want people who see ‘The Cultural Struggle’ to come away with a renewed sense of empathy and humility for those who came before us.’”
Washington, is a self-taught artist, and will be here in Grand Rapids on February 20th, to kick off the opening of his 23-piece exhibit. His artwork will be on display until May 31st.
