The first medical marijuana dispensary in the city of Grand Rapids officially opened its doors on Friday, and more shops are expected in the coming months. The company, called Fluresh, describes itself as a “modern wellness company dedicated to empowering patients to confidently improve their well-being.”

While its the second facility for Fluresh, (the other is in Adrian,) the company's main focus is to grow marijuana and manufacture its own brand of cannabis products. Leah Bailey is the company’s Chief Executive Officer. She says, because Fluresh produces its own line of products, like edibles, workers there know exactly what they are selling to their customers, and therefore, can ensure customer safety.

“Fluresh hopes to be the company that everybody in Michigan who would like to try cannabis, or is using cannabis, can go to and feel that they will get the quality and the consistency that they expect,” Bailey said.

The company says a new growing center behind the dispensary is set to launch later this spring, and will bring over 100 jobs to the area.

One of the few cities in the state that has already decided to allow recreational marijuana business, Grand Rapids will start accepting recreational marijuana applications on April 20. Fluresh officials confirmed their goal is to offer recreational marijuana as well once their application is accepted.
