If the thought of owning an electric car “or going green” leaves you with mixed feelings… you’re not alone. There are reported concerns over cost and the range of electric cars. But a new report may ease the fears of potential buyers.
“Prior to owning an electric vehicle, a majority of owners said they had at least one concern. Things like insufficient range, implications for long distance travel and finding a place to charge.”
But, Adrienne Woodland, AAA Michigan Spokesperson, says that as part of their recent study, they found that after actually buying and owning an electric car, many of those concerns or worries, disappeared.
“And AAA believes that if consumers have a better understanding of the real cost and experience of owning an electric vehicle, then the gap bet ween expressed interest and adoption will begin to close.”
AAA says 40-million Americans have shown interest in buying electric for their next car, but actually making the purchase is slow going. AAA officials says they did the study to understand what kind of impact the experience of owning an electric vehicle has on perception of these cars and if given the chance- would consumers choose to go green again.
A couple of the study’s findings show of those who owned an electric vehicle:
The majority, 96-percent would buy or lease another one when in the market for a new car.
Two in five say they drive more now than when they owned a gas-powered car and 78-percent say they also have a gas-powered car, yet report they do most of the driving in their electric vehicle.
AAA adds, owning a car whether gas or electric is a personal decision and research should be done to make an informed decision. The full study can be found at AAA.com
