LC Walker Arena changing name to Mercy Health Arena after city commission vote

LC Walker Arena

The “LC Walker Arena” will be changing its name to the “Mercy Health Arena” soon, after Muskegon City Commissioners approved the re-naming of the iconic downtown venue Tuesday evening. Officials say, the partnership with Mercy Health will contribute to the arena’s sustainability, after the city recently invested roughly $4 million dollars to renovate the venue.

Sources from the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce told WGVU, the investment into the arena is all part of a master plan to make the city’s downtown corridor more attractive to visitors, specifically in the fall and winter months, when tourism is statistically slow.

This past May, construction began on a new, $19 million convention center directly next door to the arena. The convention center will connect the venue with the new, Delta by Marriot…. The hotel recently underwent renovations and rebranding itself, having formerly been a Holliday Inn.

As part of the agreement, Mercy Health will hold the naming rights to the arena for the next 15 years.
