Groundbreaking on the Grand Rapids Innovation Park is less than a month away. A multi-million dollar gift will fund cancer-fighting technologies.

Doug Meijer and the Meijer Foundation are investing $19.5 million into what will be named the Doug Meijer Medical Innovation Center.

At the corner of Michigan Street and Monroe Avenue where Michigan State University’s Grand Rapids Research Center opened in 2017 an expansion will soon take shape. Inside the $83 million 200,000-square-foot medical innovation building will now include a theranostics clinic including a cyclotron-equipped radiopharmacy and PET/MR scanner.

Doug Meijer explains, “This new medical innovation building will help save lives and improve the quality of life for many people through remarkable cancer-fighting technology. Patients will no longer have to travel overseas to receive needed treatment. I am living proof this technology works.”

When completed, it’s estimated the new medical innovation building will create 250 to 300 jobs Included in the project is a 600-vehicle parking ramp with public accessibility.
