WalletHub: GR 8th Best For People With Disabilities

Wikipedia

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month.  And the personal-finance website WalletHub recently released a report on 2019's Best & Worst Cities for People with Disabilities.  Grand Rapids came in as the 8th “best” city for those with disabilities.

“This was done in honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month to really make sure people are aware of these issues and cities that are doing well can really be looked at as leading by example.”

And WalletHub analyst Jill Gonzalez, says one of the city’s leading by example is Grand Rapids, which came in as the 8th “best” in the personal finance website’s recent study.

“Grand Rapids ranks the 8th best city for people with disabilities and that’s based on 33 different indicators of disability friendliness.  So that data set ranges from positions per capita to the rate of workers with disabilities to things like park accessibility.”

WalletHub says with the physical and economic challenges of managing a disability in mind, it compared more than 180 of the most populated cities across those key indicators of disability-friendliness.

“Grand Rapids did best when it comes to health care.  It ranks pretty well for lower cost of doctor visits, lower average per person house insurance premium along with a good number of general practitioners, occupational therapists, in home health-aids and personal care aids per capita.”
