Study: Michigan has the safest drivers in the country. But there's a catch

non-licensed

A new study says Michigan drivers are the best in the nation, with Detroit drivers coming in at number one overall. The study, from insurance comparison website QuoteWizard, analyzed data from millions of insurance quotes, and evaluated cities and their drivers based on the number of accidents, speeding tickets, DUIs and citations, and the Motor City came out on top.

Not far behind Detroit is the city of Grand Rapids, which ranks fifth in the nation when it comes to safe driving.

However, those who disagree with the study’s findings, may have a point.

In ranking Michigan the number one state in the country when it comes to safe driving, the study does offer this disclaimer,

“Michigan has some of the highest insurance rates in America, and when folks can’t afford insurance, they’re more often than not driving without it. The high uninsured rates in the state make it hard to accurately determine the quality of Michigan’s drivers.”
