People rally against state’s auto no fault law at the Capitol

Cheyna Roth

Advocates for the state’s former auto insurance law that mandated unlimited lifetime benefits rallied at the state Capitol today.

The new law that, in part, gets rid of the mandate was signed in May.

Supporters say the new auto insurance law will lower Michigan’s rates. Those rates have been among the highest in the nation.

But opponents are concerned getting rid of the lifetime, unlimited, medical benefits mandate will do more harm than good.

Protestors at the rally want the Legislature to undo the new law…or make changes to it that will ensure people who want unlimited lifetime benefits get them.

On Tuesday, some Democrats spoke out against a budget that they say does not put enough money toward the implementation of the new auto insurance law.

Republicans say that budget mirrored what Governor Gretchen Whitmer proposed.
