Meet the candidate: Wendy Falb

Wendy Falb is running for the City Commission in Grand Rapids second ward. Falb is the former President of the Grand Rapids Board of Education where she served for 10 years, and is currently the executive director of the Literacy Center of West Michigan. Her endorsements include former Grand Rapids Mayor George Hartwell, and State Senator Winnie Brinks. Falb has lived in the 2nd Ward for 35 years, and she says, she has a deep love for the city of Grand Rapids, and for the people in the 2nd Ward, and if elected, will do her best to represent their interests.

“So I am very hands on, my campaign team has probably walked up to over 9000 doors, and I’ve probably done half of those myself,” Falb said. “And I was committed when I decided to run to do those doors, because I find speaking with people, on their front porch, listening to them, listening to their cares, I find it very grounding, and it has been, it has given me a much richer, broader and deeper sense of who they are, and what there perspectives are.

looks to fill the seat currently held by City Commissioner Ruth Kelly who is stepping down due to term-limits. If he receives 50 plus 1 percent of the vote, he wins outright, if not, a run-off will take place in November between the top two candidates.

Meanwhile, the City of Grand Rapids is reminding voters it’s not too late to register to vote. With Proposal 3 passing last November, voters in Michigan now have the opportunity to cast a “no reason” absentee vote, and they can also register the day of the election, which for the city commissioner’s race, is August 6th.
