Rep. Huizenga on Trump tweets: 'We can do better'

A West Michigan Congressman is the latest to rebuke President Donald Trump’s comments he made on twitter about four congresswomen. United States Representative Bill Huizenga is calling out President Donald Trump over a series of tweets he made this weekend that echoed racist taunts long used to insult non-white people.

Trump tweeted that four congresswomen of color, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, should go back to the "broken and crime infested" countries they came from” though all of the women are American citizens and three were born in the United States.

Representative Huzienga, who is a Republican and represents the 2nd Congressional District, often agrees with the President Trump on a number of policies, but took exception however, with the tweets over the past weekend.

Huizenga issued this statement quote:

“I strongly disagree with what the President said in a series of tweets over the weekend. Every duly elected official needs to lead by example, end the personal character assassination attacks, and focus on finding ways to work together to make America the very best it can be. We are better than this – let’s start showing it.”

Meanwhile, Trump is not backing down from his comments. On Monday Trump said Monday at the White House, "If you're not happy in the U.S., if you're complaining all the time, you can leave, you can leave right now.”
