Grand Rapids Board of Education has hired an interim superintendent as its search for a fulltime district leader continues.
Superintendent Teresa Weatherall Neal’s last day on the job is July 1st. The search to replace her has been extended after the Grand Rapids Board of Education decided neither of the two finalists for the job, were a good fit for the district. As the nationwide search continues, the board moved forward Monday with a special work session appointing an interim superintendent.
Dr. Ron Gorman was the choice. With two decades serving in the Grand Rapids Public Schools his background is extensive. He’s currently the Assistant Superintendent of Pre-K-12 Instructional Support. A district news release lists his duties. Dr. Gorman has been an elementary teacher, a secondary teacher, a high school assistant principal, a high school athletic director, a K-8 principal, a high school principal, and the Executive Director of Secondary Schools.
Gorman holds a Bachelor of Arts from Aquinas College, a Master of Educational Leadership from Michigan State University, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University.
His first day as interim superintendent is July 1st.
