An investigation by the Better Business Bureau Serving Western Michigan caused a questionable Bitcoin Website to be removed.
“This investigation was launched by a complaint to the BBB, we do monitor those and try to take action on behalf of the consumer.”
Troy Baker is the Communications Manager for the Better Business Bureau serving Western Michigan. He says a questionable website proved to be a local scam.
“The website was called Blockonomitrade.com and it actually claimed to be based in West Michigan. So a consumer reached out to us. They had gone to this website and made an investment and the investment promised a specific rate of return, so when it came time to cash out, the website said, sorry, we can’t give you your money.”
Baker says they were able to prove through their investigation that it was a scam website with what appeared to have a fake ID and location which convinced the webhost to take down the website.
“Finding them is difficult. We don’t know exactly where they are. They’re probably somewhere overseas. But the webhosting company did agree to take it down, which is important, so that no one else gets scammed by this.”
Baker says potential Bitcoin investors need to make sure they do their homework, know who you’re investing with and understand the risk. And most of all he says.
“Beware of any company or website that claims to give you a guaranteed rate of return and you cannot guarantee you’re going to get a certain amount out of one of these investments.”
