Michigan residents may want to get themselves to church soon. A new study released Wednesday found that Michigan is one of the most “sinful” states in the nation. Published Wednesday from online website Wallethub, overall, Michigan ranks 10th in the nation when it comes to our sinful nature.
Researchers compared the 50 states across the United States based on seven different behaviors, better known as the seven deadly sins: anger and hatred, jealousy, gluttony, greed, lust, vanity and laziness.
According to the study, metrics used to determine scores included violent crimes per capita, theft, obesity, drug use, casinos per capita and more. The data was compiled using several different sources, including the U.S. Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and the FBI.
Michigan’s biggest sin? That would be Jealousy which Michigan ranks 6th in out of the 50 states, followed by Anger and Hatred, where Michigan ranks 10th. Apparently Michigan also thinks rather highly of itself, ranking 14th in the nation when it comes to vanity, while ranking 15th in the nation when it comes to laziness.
But religious leaders shouldn’t be too upset. Michigan ranks 27th when it comes to lust, and only 42nd when it comes to greed.
And it could be worse. Not surprising to some, Nevada, home to Las Vegas, ranked the #1 most sinful state in the nation.
