Grand Rapids residents invited to provide input on police chief search

The City of Grand Rapids wants to know what residents would like to see in the next Chief of Police, as city Manager Mark Washington has invited community members to share their thoughts on what characteristics he needs to look as he interviews potential candidates.

Earlier this month, Washington hired Public Sector Search and Consulting, a national recruiting firm to spearhead the search. The firm is responsible for helping larger cities such as San Francisco and Kansas City in their own respective police chief searches.

The firm, along with Washington, will host two community feedback sessions this month.

“I hope our residents and other community members will participate and have their voices heard,” Washington said. “Input from our neighborhoods and the community is critical to helping us select the right person.”

The public forums take place on February 19th and 20th. For more information visit grcity.us
