Grand Rapids City Hall closes for 2nd time this week

City of Grand Rapids

On Thursday, Grand Rapids City Manager, Mark Washington, announed that Grand Rapids City Hall was closing for the second time this week due to winter weather. The two-day closure is prompted by snow and icy road conditions and andangerous wind chills. It follows the decision by the State of Michigan and Kent County to close their non-essential offices for another day.

“The city is not shut down – many people still need to get to work and businesses are still open,” City Manager Mark Washington said. “We are working to make sure city streets and sidewalks are safe for anyone who needs to travel, including those coming downtown for the auto show at DeVos Place.”

The 61st District Court and all Grand Rapids Public Library branches also will be closed on Thursday.

While non-essential City offices will remain closed, emergency operations will continue. They are Police, Fire, 311 Customer Service, Public Works, Water System and Environmental Services. The City’s refuse and recycling services also will continue as scheduled.
