PAC money pours into midterm election – breaks record

Political Action Committees – or PACs have spent a record amount of money trying to influence the midterm election.

This is part of a larger trend in this year’s election cycle. Craig Mauger is the executive director of the Michigan Campaign Finance Network. It’s a watchdog group that tracks campaign spending. He says multiple spending records have already been broken.

“This election year is going to be an election year unlike any other in Michigan for the amount of money in these races.”

These PACs have spent around 80 million dollars on this year’s election in Michigan. And that’s just based on campaign finance records so far. Final numbers will come in around January. The last record was a grand total of 60 million.
