In an effort to meet the increasing demand for graduates seeking careers in health professions, Grand Valley State University officials broke ground Tuesday evening on what will be the flagship of the school’s Health Campus on the Medical Mile in downtown Grand Rapids.

The Daniel and Pamella DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health will provide a cutting edge, state-of-the-industry education as students will train in an on-the-job type learning environment with faculty.

With a price tag of $70 million, the State of Michigan is covering about 40 percent of that cost.

With construction set to be completed by 2021, the new DeVos Center for Interprofessional Health will include 15 classrooms and 14 interactive laboratories.

As the region’s leading provider of health care professionals, school officials say the five-story, 160,000-square-foot center will help accommodate the increasing number of students training for a career in the medical field.
