WGVU Decision 2018: Michigan 72nd House District Republicans

Republican logo

Republican Steven Johnson is the incumbent House Representative in Michigan’s 72nd District. He chairs the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules. He is also a member of the House Energy, Military and Veterans Affairs, Oversight and Tax Policy committees.

“I am the clear conservative choice in this race. I am the only candidate endorsed by Michigan Right to Life and have consistently stood for lower taxes and less regulations fighting for our conservative values. I have been a strong voice against the special interests in Lansing and standing up for lower insurance rates.”

Johnson’s challenger is Jennifer Antel. Her public service career includes Assistant to the City Manager in the City of Kalamazoo. She proposed increasing educational opportunities, fully funding roads and maintaining local government control.

“I think it’s time again that the 72nd be represented by someone with experience, perspective and expertise. I received my Master’s degree in Public Administration from Grand Valley (State University) and I’m currently serving my 13th year on Wayland City Council. I believe my experience in education have qualified me to be an effective leader in Lansing. I’m running because I can foster cooperation and leadership in Lansing. My goal is not to be the most conservative legislator but the most effective.”

The Michigan Primary is Tuesday, August 7th.
