Holton Public School officials are celebrating after voters approved a bond proposal worth nearly $7 million in Muskegon County’s May special election. According to school officials, the money will be used primarily for refurnishing school buildings and buying new buses.
“I am just so incredibly thankful for a community that sees the value of education and sees that it is a direct correlation to our future," Holton Public Schools Superintendent Adam Bayne said. "It is going to impact our community for a long time.”
According to Muskegon County, the results were closer than what Holton Public School officials probably would have liked, with 45 percent voting against the proposal. Bayne says, the school district mismanagement of funds in the past may have led many to vote ‘no.’
“One of the areas that I really want to assure our community is that I will take this investment and be as transparent as possible, and ensure that we are doing the right thing for kids.”
Meanwhile, voters turned down a proposed sinking fund millage for Orchard View Schools, while voters renewed an existing millage in Grand Haven and Fremont.
