KISD provides Strong Schools, Strong Communities millage update
The Strong Schools, Strong Communities enhancement millage was passed by voters last year. The Kent County Intermediate School District wants residents to know how the additional dollars are being used in classrooms.
Voters approved the Kent Intermediate School District’s Strong Schools, Strong Communities enhancement millage in May. The additional $20 million generated annually over the next 10 years will provide more resources for the 20 school districts served by Kent ISD.
In a news release the district says it is expanding STEM programming. That’s science, technology, engineering, arts and math. It’s also focusing on reducing class sizes providing more individual attention to students and providing teachers with more training opportunities.
A Your Child survey conducted this month indicates that's what parents want and expect.
Ron Caniff is Kent ISD Superintendent and he says, “Students will receive more math and reading assistance, additional guidance counseling and be better prepared for careers and college through these resources.”
