In a December of poll, 37% of registered Michigan voters give President Donald Trump a positive job approval rating while 61% rate his performance as just fair or poor.

The numbers are revealed in Lansing-based EPIC-MRA’s most recent survey. The polling of 600 registered Michigan voters conducted in mid-December provides polar opposite views when it comes to the direction the country and the state are heading.

When asked the question, “Overall, would you say that things in the country are generally headed in the right direction, or, have things pretty seriously gotten off on the wrong track?” 52% of voters responded wrong track and 33% right direction. When asking those same voters the same question about the state of Michigan and 50% say right direction, 35% answered wrong track.

The EPIC-MRA poll also takes a peek at a potential gubernatorial matchup in November 2018’s general election. In a head-to-head between Attorney General Bill Schuette and Gretchen Whitmer, the former Democratic leader of the Michigan Senate it’s a virtual tie with voters leaning toward Schuette 38% to Whitmer’s 35%.
