Some Michigan schools are closing ahead of a storm that's expected to bring fresh snow to a wide swath of the state, creating hazardous traveling conditions. A winter storm warning was issued Wednesday for parts of the Lower Peninsula stretching from the Ludington and Muskegon area along Lake Michigan to the Detroit area in southeastern Michigan.

Forecasters say about 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 centimeters) of new snow are expected by Thursday morning.

With much of the snow coming Wednesday, Detroit's public schools said they'd close two hours early for the day and dozens of other districts around the Detroit area closed in anticipation of slippery, snow-covered roads. Officials are urging people to use caution while traveling.
