Two West Michigan State Representatives are asking residents impacted by water contamination in Northern Kent County to access new websites providing updated information.

State Representatives Chris Afendoulis whose district includes Plainfield Township and Rob VerHeulen, whose district includes Rockford, are following developments on Wolverine World Wide’s House Street Disposal site and ground water contamination discovered there. The representatives have issued a joint statement assuring their top priority is the health and safety of affected residents.

The statement reads, “Our offices have been in regular communication with the Michigan Departments of Health and Human Services, Environmental Quality, Natural Resources, and Agriculture and Rural Development as they work with the Kent County Health Department, Plainfield Township, and Wolverine Worldwide. All of these organizations are working together to assist residents with short-term questions and concerns as we work toward a long-term solution.”

Wolverine World Wide has pledged water filters to families. The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality continues its testing. Results and updates are passed along to Kent County and Plainfield Townships where the information is posted at their government websites; accesskent.com/Health/PFAS/Belmont and plainfieldmi.org/house-st-ground-water-contamination.
