During its Board of Trustees meeting, Grand Valley State University released its economic impact report. GVSU estimates its economic impact on the region, based on 2015-2016 data, is $816 million.
The 2014-2015 estimated economic value to the tri-county area of Kent, Ottawa and Muskegon Counties was $780 million. The university’s new construction and renovations projects created 1,760 trade and construction jobs and injected more than $83 million into the local economy.
Specifically, GVSU is constructing the $37.5 million Raliegh J. Finkelstein Hall expanding its downtown Grand Rapids health campus.
Also in the works on its Allendale Campus is the $20 million expansion of its Performing Arts Center.
The report also points out GVSU “employs more than 3,600 people and enrolls more than 25,400 students who spend money and pay taxes in the region.”
